Set in 16th-century Europe, the story follows Brian Duffy, an aging Irish mercenary, who is hired to protect a brewery in Vienna that produces a mystical beer believed to be crucial in the battle between good and evil. As the Ottoman Empire threatens to invade, Duffy discovers that the brewery is the center of a cosmic struggle involving ancient powers and legendary figures. The beer, known as the "Dark," is said to rejuvenate King Arthur, who will rise to defend the West. Duffy finds himself entangled in a world of myth and magic, where his own past and destiny are intertwined with the fate of Europe.
